Traced back to the 18th century, the Talken family emigrated from the town of Gross Hesepe in the Emsland district of the German state of Lower Saxony to the United States between 1835 and 1846.  Hesepe was divided into two separate communities prior to 1968, but today it is part of the municipality of Geeste in the district of Emsland.
