Old Boke Coat of Arms

Traced back to the 17th century in the Boke district of Delbrück, Westfalen (later Nordrhein-Westfalen), the Berensmeyer family, sometimes spelled Berensmeier, Behrensmeyer, or Bernsmeyer, later moved to the district of Moese, before immigrating to the United States in 1857, sailing into the port of New Orleans, Louisiana.  The German state of Westfalen later became known as Nordrhein-Westfalen in 1946 when the British empire combined the two provinces of North Rhein and Westphalia into one.  The two districts of Boke and Moese in Delbrück still exist today.
